Black History Month 2020
2020 has so far been a year which we will never forget; it has also been the year that will be remembered for placing the spotlight on the reality of racism. The horrific murder of George Floyd sparked #BlackLivesMatter protests around the world and made people and organisations step back and reflect on the need to educate themselves about Black history, Black present and Black future and to make a firm commitment to anti-racism.
At Bonus Pastor Catholic College, we stand together against systematic racism and individual bigotry that continue to take the lives of black men, women and children around the world. We commit, with our students, to being part of the change.
During October we celebrate Black History Month. This year’s Black History Month is a time to reflect on times of difficulty, to learn and to tell stories from the past, but it is also a time for us to take a deeper look at the Black British History and to celebrate heroes and prominent figures. Black History Month 2020 is also a time to look forward and celebrate the here and now and to celebrate the inspirational stories both inside and outside of Bonus Pastor Catholic College.
Black History Month 2020 is a time for people to come together and hopefully learn lessons for the present and the future. Thank you to the History department who have been working on resources for lessons and extracurricular activities and are working with other departments across the school to deliver the articles in the Pastorale throughout October. Well done to the student Leadership team, who, as always feature prominently in this publication. The students will always have the strongest voice at Bonus Pastor and they will shape the future.
