Year 9 Residential Trip to Belgium

A group of Year 9 History students along with the History department had a fantastic Historical learning experience in Ypres, Belgium exploring the sites of the First World War.

Students visited the trenches and tunnels of WW1 at Sanctuary Wood, delved into the artefacts on show in the Flanders Field and Hooge Crater museums and paid their respects at multiple cemeteries. Students also had the opportunity to experience the moving Menin Gate ceremony which has been taking place every day since 1928 as an act of remembrance. We had fantastic weather and pupils were able to relax in the shaded gardens of Talbot House and have a sing along at the piano of this British Soldier's Club which was a refuge for soldiers during the war when they were on leave from fighting on the front lines.

As well as packing in a lot of History, we made sure there was still time to enjoy dinner together, participate in a very competitive game of bowling and sample the delicious Belgian chocolate! Well done to all of the students who represented BP so brilliantly and made it such a memorable trip!

We would like to say a particular well done to Laurence Boxhill, Kelsey Endeley and Jaden Cephas who laid a wreath on behalf of the Bonus Pastor community at the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate. They represented the school beautifully.
