Future Wildlife Detectives in Action
BackWe're thrilled to announce the launch an exciting research initiative involving our Year 7, 8, and 9 students!
Around 30 students have enthusiastically embarked on a hands-on project, to investigate then improve the wildlife on our school grounds, particularly in our playing fields.
Students will begin by observing and recording the insects, plants, birds, and other animals they find in their designated green spaces. Based on their findings, they will work in groups to design and implement a wildlife-friendly intervention. This may include planting wildflowers to attract pollinators or building a bug hotel to create new habitats or other strategies. The final stage involves further observation to assess whether their intervention was successful in enhancing the local biodiversity.
This project sponsored by the prestigious Royal Society, and we are proud to be partnered with Imperial College London!
On Tuesday, December 2nd, the students had a brilliant kick-off session led by Dr. Cecylia Watrobska from Imperial College London. She guided the students through background research.
Students worked in their groups to discuss potential research focus areas, formulate a strategy for their project, and learn essential techniques for sampling the wildlife populations.
We look forward to sharing updates on their discoveries and interventions!
