Future Filmmakers: Year 11 Creative Media Students Take On Sky Studios

Our Year 11 Creative Media students stepped out of the classroom and into the fast-paced world of professional broadcasting with an exciting visit to Sky Studios.

The day offered an exclusive tour behind the scenes of one of the UK’s leading media giants, giving students a real-world look at professional studio setups, control rooms, and production workflows.

The highlight of the trip was a hands-on filming workshop. Working in small production teams, students took full creative control—brainstorming, scripting, and storyboard planning their own original film trailers and advertisements. They then brought their concepts to life by filming with studio-grade equipment and editing their footage into polished, final cuts.

This immersive experience comes at a critical time for the cohort as they prepare for their Component 2 practical exam unit. Having to pitch, film, and edit under tight production deadlines directly mirrors the assessment criteria for their upcoming media projects, giving them both practical skills and a major boost of confidence.

Seeing industry professionals at work—and stepping into those roles themselves for the day—provided invaluable insights into potential careers in media production. Our Year 11s represented the school brilliantly, and we can’t wait to see how they apply these fresh skills and ideas to their Component 2 practical coursework!
